You are certainly welcome to your opinion that common expiration dates
would cause large companies with many domain to purchase more domains
than they otherwise would, but I don't share it.

Being able to pay the bill with a PO once a year is attractive. Having
this actually align with the expiration date of their domains is not
something that would have interested me when I managed the domains for a
Fortune 500 company. Annual billing, yes. Having this align with the
actual domain expiration dates would not have interested me in the
least.
