Personally I don't care which way. Whichever is the easiest. That said, I've seen two variants of 2 that could be boiled down to 2a. Do X, because I'm the expert. 2b. Do X, because of Y and Z. Sometimes 2b can involve quite a bit of education/explanation/ discussion. In general I find it worth the effort since it enables everybody to make better decisions as development progresses. That saves me time in anything but the short term since it frees me up to look at the harder problems that need an expert.
