David and Jared, I agree with you both. I'm rolling onto my second agile
project, after 3 years of learning what worked well, failed and how to
recover quickly to still get the product completed, but not on time. We
are using Feature Driven Development (FDD) method.

Like David mentioned, interaction design must come first. It's the only
way I found a project to work successfully. Otherwise we start
developing "coping mechanisms" like Alan described.

Jared is right about working as a team. I sit in the same room as the
developers, QA, and the project manager. The collaboration is what
everyone loves about the project. It's my role to help "them" understand
why they cannot succeed without me. I've been so successful at this,
that the developers now come to me before any code is written.

Maybe I'm naive, but I do think that progress is being made. There are
always lessons learned on each project. Design has to come first and how
we choose to build the product to get it out the door is up to "them". I
just want to make sure I'm present to help along the way.

What I work like to learn more about is how these design engineers work
with interaction designers. I really didn't get a good grasp of the
process from Alan's article or presentation.
