While I tend to agree with you about this subject, a lot of younger folks
are more comfortable with web-based forums.  I've seen this change happen
particularly in the linux distributions' online communities.  Also, I've
heard this come up on some of the LUG mailing lists I'm on.

Since a lot of people view email as just another web page (their webmail
page), it isn't a huge leap.
