I strongly agree with this, and we do have an option in mind that will
provide online forums, e-mail, and NNTP for the same content, with posts
to any one mechanism going out to the other two.
Baen Books (the sci-fi publisher) is using this setup for their forums
at http://bar.baen.com
registration is required, but no ads or any of the other negative stuff
you are used to with registered sites. They require registration to keep
the fiction that stuff posted to the forums does not exhaust the legal
"first publication" rights.
you can go there and play around in the Interface or Bar Bugs forums
without annoying anyone.
