(ie. can I access the micro pc > using my main PC monitor?) Vortexbox software comes with builtin ripping software, so if your computer running VB has an optical drive you can rip right into the box.
For control and access you have three options: plug a monitor and keyboard in, but this gives you a very primitive command line only linux interface. The usual way is to use a web browser on another computer. VB software has a web server that includes almost everything you need to operate it. This is the preferred way to interact with VB. You can also SSH in from another computer, but again you just have a command line interface. VB software exports its filesystems as network shares so you can read and write the files from other computers. I'm running VB software on a FitPC2 which is an atom based computer about the size of your hand, including a 2.5" drive! It takes about 5 watts and has no moving parts other than whatever drive you put in it. It makes a great server and is very small, quiet, and low power.
