Any internet radio I want to listen to is in natively supported formats too.

Presumably it has something to do with the database index. So this is not an issue either. You forgot to mention speed of scanning. My setup takes about 40 minutes for a complete rescan. If I need to do that I just set it off last thing at night before I go to bed. I think my setup is probably more indicative of the average SB buyer, who probably has only a few hundreds of CDs and some downloaded MP3 files. Obviously if your collection is very large, includes High-def recordings or lots of non-native formats then your advice is sound. As I say at the outset, everybody's requirements are different and a dedicated SBS server is probably over-kill for most people - but maybe not the OP who has 700GB of digital recordings. Even if there is a bit of a performance "hit" from my use of the NAS rather than a PC or dedicated server, I do not notice it in every day use. To me, it is *far* more important that my SBS server is reliably available 24/7/365 not only for my use, but my wife, children and guests. My NAS does all that for me. If my collection ever gets to the stage that is not the case I will need to rethink my strategy. That does not look imminent though. -- TheLastMan Matt *SqueezeBoxes:* SB Duet (Controller + two receivers) *Server:* Synology Diskstation 107+ NAS (with firmware 2.3-1157) running Squeezebox Server 7.5.0 on Synology Package Manager *Network:* Netgear DG834GT ADSL modem/router, 2 x Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 as access points *Livingroom:* Receiver into Naim 42/110 amp, B&W CM2 speakers *Kitchen:* Receiver into Denon DM37 mini-system, B&W 686 speakers *Study:* Linn LP12, Naim 72/Hi-cap/Headline.
