I have NetStumbler on our laptop, but haven't used it for a while; it's
a bit of a pain because it disables the laptop's network adapter (or
some layer of the sacrificial chicken stack, at least), which means web
and email access stops working. However, the laptop's own "show
available networks" wasn't finding anything. It soon went back to
reporting full speed, but sync was still troublesome. Still, if it gets
this bad again, I'll give NetStumbler a try.

Tonight was much better; indeed, the kitchen unit reported signal
strength in the low 70s, better than the living-room. Then I had to use
the microwave again, and that killed the sync. I got it back again
afterwards, but it was a bit more glitchy.

When sync fails because one unit can't keep up, I'd prefer it (given my
layout) if the other unit just kept going; sometimes it does, sometimes
it doesn't. Of course, it might be that both units are suffering, but
I've never had the living-room SB3 react to the microwave on its own
before.

Thanks for the suggestions anyway, Jim.
