To eliminate this problem, you can use VO keys with up and down arrows to read through the rows of the Messages Table without hearing all the chatter of the other columns. Simply Interact with the Messages Table, use VO keys+right arrow to get focus to the Subject or Sender column and you can then quickly move up and down through the messages and reading those you determine important and doing whatever you wish with the others. Once on a message you'd like to read, press Return then use your down arrow to read. No need for VO Keys at all in this case and it is very quick.
I admit it takes some getting used to in comparison to JAWS and Outlook but not as time consuming or cumbersome as you suggest.
