The results of trying Greg's installer on my daughter's computer,  
where no install had been previously attempted, were that after  
installing the software, as soon as I plugged in the scanner I got  
the message about a file being missing or dammaged or settings being  
incorrect and was told to reinstall the scanner driver. So I don't  
know what the problem is but it isn't primarily because I had  
previously attempted to install since the same thing happens on my  
daughter's computer.
