I know exactly how you feel. I like a kind of music called rebetika and for five years, I've been searching for a rebetis or mangas (a singer of the genre or someone who at least knew some of the greats). He'd be over 80 by now, and believe me, I've posted to just about every Greek board around and am now going to the newspapers in both countries. Speaking of newspapers, have you tried those? Some allow you to post for free and many are online so that you could search through the classifieds. Do you need your cell phone or cable? If not, maybe you could get rid of one or both of them for a time and save up the $700 that way. I can't believe that Apple won't let you pay in installments. As for jobs, there are many different types of jobs that are work at home and real. What about selling some of your stuff, even your old mac? You could sell it on Craigslist so that you don't have to pay them like you do with EBay. And ebay really isn't that bad as far as quality. You just have to look carefully. As a sidenote, I'm now with a totally amazing man who's 62 and who knew some of the later singers. He even got me in touch with one of the sons of Markos Vamvakaris, my favourite rebetis. I spoke with him on the phone! If you would've told me a year ago that I'd be doing that someday, I would've laughed in your face. So believe me, anything's possible.
