You're missing the point. Cars and trucks are both automobiles, but one is capable of heavy loads, and one isn't. Microsoft Word or Pages are meant to be used for complex documents. TextEdit is still a word processor, even if it isn't meant for as heavy lifting, so to speak, as Pages. A rose is a rose is a rose. A text editor does just that, it edits text, and does not have spell checking, grammar checking, or advanced formatting options. TextEdit has some, but not all, advanced formatting options. It is, as we keep saying, a *simple* word processor. :)
