I'm totally blind and believe me, i do not need to know how many msgs is in a list to be able to read my mail. When i reach the end of my messages, i hear "no selected item", and that's enough for me. But of course, the way i read mail is that i delete the ones that aren't interesting, i save those that are very interesting, and i save those in another folder than the inbox.
