In Mail, simply move to the title of the inbox, by VO up arrowing once from the messages table and it should tell you how many messages you have, and how many are unread.

Hi David, you hear the number of rows added, but sighted people can
look and see how many messages there are, but we can't, and how do you
know where you are in a list, if it doesn't say 5 of 15, or something
like that, because it might say 25 rows added, but what if you have
more than 25 messages in your folder, how do you know how many messages
you have to go until the end? Sighted people don't need itemized
lists, but we do, so the screen readers have these, but at least on my
mac, I don't hear any itemized count, and that was helpful when I would
be reading my mail.

about what you want though for instance, if you use list view, you get
numbered lists. same in mail, you get numbered messages and there is a

What is an itemized list?

I use arrows to move through folders in one of the three views, list,
iconand column all the time and do not feel the need for a top and
bottom
signal.

When a folder is empty, it's empty. when there is only one item in a
list,
there is no reason to have it read more than once but you can examine
the
list with vo keys and arrows.

Hi all, I think we need itemized lists, because I can be in a folder,
and unless I type something, I don't know where I am, and there is no
top and bottom index so you don't know if you're at the beginning of a
list or not. If voice over has this, it should have these options
available by default right out of the box, and also, when in an empty
folder, it should say unselected, or no selected item, as when I am in
a list of messages, and there is only one message in the
list, in mail, or a folder, pressing the up arrow will not read the
message or file again, and, maybe it is my misunderstanding of the
mac, because I have only had it for a month, but to me, these basic
things are very important. On Oct 24, 2008, at 5:29 AM, Will Lomas
