I really appreciate your efforts. You have taken a very long and
difficult path to discover what I said in the first place. OOo is not
saving its files as PDF. As I stated in the beginning, I have made
several radical removals and re-installations on different computers
over the years. That usually worked to bring back the "save as PDF"
function, but it meant that every time I had to set up all my defaults
from scratch. That is no way to work. I was hoping that a new group of
newsgroup correspondents would contain someone who had vanquished this
bug. Your good will and good intentions are much appreciated, but it
is evident that the problem cannot be solved, at least for the
present. Thanks again. Avraham
I'm sure you will symnpathise that it will be almost impossible without
actually laying hands on your machine to diagnose this one!!
I'll suggest an alternative though - abandon OOo's PDF export completely
and use PDFCreator or similar. This freeware even lets you use all the
normal print options (like booklet format) that, for whatever reason,
aren't offered on the PDF export menu. It also lets you "print" to
graphics files directly, which can be useful on occasion.
Just a thought.
Thanks for the suggestion. In the meantime I did another radical
removal. So, it's working again. It is NOT one machine, so it wouldn't
help to lay hands on it ... although sometimes I am tempted. I used
Creator ages ago, before OOo added the save as PDF function. It's OK,
but unless they've significantly improved it, it doesn't have live
footnotes and TOC and such which I use in the documents I generate.
Avraham
