Hi Avraham,
Thank you for the detailed information.

Here's a more detailed version of the symptoms.
1. The problem is in Windows XP, after a clean installation.
2. Writer works fine. As far as I can see, all the normal functions work.
3. When I try to save as PDF, either via the toolbar icon or via the
save as option, Writer goes through the motions and "saves" a PDF file.
4. When I open the saved PDF file, it is a clean sheet, empty. There
is a PDF file, with the name of the original Writer file, but with no
content.
5. As noted, this has happened several times over the years, and the
only way to correct it has been a complete removal of OOo and
re-installation. This last time, even this did not work.
6. I went to Ubuntu (dual boot), opened the Writer file and saved it
as PDF.
In the step 4, in what size is the empty sheet?
A4 as expected
File - Properties menu of Adobe Reader would show you it in the tab
"Description."
I don't use Adobe.
Does the width of the sheet equal to the height of that?
No
Is the size of sheet in the PDF file same as that of page size in the
Writer?
Yes
In the step 5, which do you mean?
a) Once the OpenOffice.org has started behaving problematically, the
symptom occurs all the time with any documents.
b) Even though the symptom can be observed several times over the
years, the problem sometimes does not happen; sometimes happens.
a
Could you tell us a precious version number of the OpenOffice.org or its
variants?
As already noted, it has been happening through several updates. The
current version is 3.1.0
OOO310m11 (Build:9399)
To identify it,
1. Help - About OpenOffice.org
2. Sequentially press S D T keys with holding a Ctrl key in the dialog
"About OpenOffice.org"
3. Memorize a text like "[310m11(Build:9399)]" which will be shown in
the step 2.
4. Press a ESC key to close the dialog.
The text seems to come from one of the configuration files in the source
tree.
E.g.
http://svn.services.openoffice.org/ooo/tags/OpenOffice_3_1_0/solenv/inc/minor.mk
http://svn.services.openoffice.org/ooo/tags/OOO310_m1/solenv/inc/minor.mk
http://svn.services.openoffice.org/ooo/trunk/solenv/inc/minor.mk

Tora
I think you're missing the point. I need to find someone who has
experienced the same problem and solved it. It is not a sudden
occurrence. It has happened on several computers, in XP Pro and Vista
and several times. It has not yet occurred on Linux. In the last
occurrence, I did absolutely nothing between the re-installation and
attempting to save a file in PDF. At the moment, I have OOo installed in
one computer XP Pro. It saves as PDF. I have OOo installed in Ubuntu
9.04 and it saves as PDF. I have OOo installed on another computer XP
Pro and it has the much discussed problem. There may be a conflict with
another piece of software, but as far as I have been able to manage the
desktop XP Pro and the laptop XP Pro have the same configuration, and
OOo works on the desktop but not on the laptop XP Pro.
