Hi,

In the step 4, in what size is the empty sheet?
A4 as expected
Is the size of sheet in the PDF file same as that of page size in the
Writer?
Yes
Good. Your answer reveals some facts.
http://svn.services.openoffice.org/ooo/tags/OpenOffice_3_1_0/filter/source/pdf/pdfexport.cxx
In the function sal_Bool PDFExport::ExportSelection(...),
A valuable "nPageCount" must be more than or equal to 1, otherwise the size of
sheet does not match to the original document.
"return bRet;" must return a boolean value, true, otherwise a waring dialog
window appears later in the module sfx2.

with a proper size.

I had suspected default configuration settings which are stored in a hidden
folder as usual since the settings sometimes get unexpectedly contaminated or
broken.
However, your answer would appeal that the functions above including configuration
settings in the module "filter" seem not to directly relate to the problem.
They seem to be working well.
5. As noted, this has happened several times over the years, and the
only way to correct it has been a complete removal of OOo and
re-installation. This last time, even this did not work.
In the step 5, which do you mean?
a) Once the OpenOffice.org has started behaving problematically, the
symptom occurs all the time with any documents.

I see.
Could you tell us a precious version number of the OpenOffice.org or
its variants?
As already noted, it has been happening through several updates. The
current version is 3.1.0
OOO310m11 (Build:9399)
Thanks. The version number is highly helpful to try to reproduce and look into
the symptom on other PCs but yours.
I think you're missing the point. I need to find someone who has
experienced the same problem and solved it. It is not a sudden

occurrence. It has happened on several computers, in XP Pro and Vista
and several times. It has not yet occurred on Linux. In the last

occurrence, I did absolutely nothing between the re-installation and
attempting to save a file in PDF. At the moment, I have OOo installed in
one computer XP Pro. It saves as PDF. I have OOo installed in Ubuntu
9.04 and it saves as PDF. I have OOo installed on another computer XP
Pro and it has the much discussed problem. There may be a conflict with
another piece of software, but as far as I have been able to manage the
desktop XP Pro and the laptop XP Pro have the same configuration, and
OOo works on the desktop but not on the laptop XP Pro.
I have similar ideas as you point. The problem might come from
"conflict with another piece of software" which most people do not have or
"special computer environment" which most people do not configure.
By the way, have you already tried cleaning up and/or completely deleting the
hidden folder which keeps user's settings?
Many people often forget to delete it when they uninstall OpenOffice.org.
Current status of the investigation:
the module framework ... seems to work properly.
the module sfx2 ... seems to work properly.
the module filter ... seems to work properly.
the module vcl ... would be under investigation in the next step.
Could you send me the PDF file as an attachment, or
1. Open the PDF file with WordPad or your preferable text editor?
2. Copy texts and paste them to your e-mail software.
3. Send it.
Regards,
Tora
