Further... checking OOo in Ubuntu 10.04 ver 3.2.1, and clicking on
'Help' doesn't even provide a 'Support' option in the dropdown box. The
'Help' dropdown options in (U)OOo are:
- OpenOffice.org Help F1
- What's This?
- Get Help Online...
- Translate This Application...
- About OpenOffice.org
So what specifically are you referring to? I suggest you take up the
OK, not so many run linux compared to windows. But my point stands, that
"help|support" may not be so helpful to a newbie as you suggested.
OOo is large enough now without having users encur added bandwidth by
adding documentation to the package.
Bandwidth is cheaper than wasted time.
Really? Tell that to all those on dial-up connections.
Statistically very few people are on dial up any more. Also if the
manual is provided as an ODF file it really wouldn't have to be very
large. thats one of the virtues of ODF, it make for very compact
document storage.
If it's a real problem, a
get-you-started guide should still be included. Plus /very/ /very/ clear
pointers that a proper (-ish) manual exists and where to get it.

Regrettably, as is all too evident on the users list, many people really
do seem to need spoonfeeding.
