Laurence, What you're saying makes perfect sense. I encouraged you to look at LiveDocs because some of your earlier questions are dealt with there.

In one of my current projects, I'm finding the error message and outline to be a little flaky, even when using a standard validator with "required='true.'" Unfortunately, I don't know the answer to your question. To be honest, if your zipV is properly set to the source and property values for your text field, my reading of the docs says the error should be thrown.
