Laurence,
What you're saying makes perfect sense. I encouraged you to look at
LiveDocs because some of your earlier questions are dealt with there.

But when I write my own function, it doesn't automatically pop up
the little red error message next to the box when the ZIP Code is
invalid. So obviously I need to do that manually. But I have no
clue how to do that -- LiveDocs says nothing whatsoever about it
(at least, nothing I can find).
I understand the problem. In one of my current projects, I'm finding
the error message and outline to be a little flaky, even when using
a standard validator with "required='true.'" Unfortunately, I don't
know the answer to your question. To be honest, if your zipV is
properly set to the source and property values for your text field,
my reading of the docs says the error should be thrown.
It is thrown if Source and Property values are set -- but it's
*always* thrown in that case. No way to turn it off for non-US
addresses. So I have to disable those Source and Property values --
and then it's never thrown, even when I want it to be. Big-time
catch-22 here, it seems.
