We have kind of patched them, making them multilingual with separated
templates and language files. The work is not complete as we only needed
a few things, but if anybody were interested, drop me a line and I SVN
it up (I hope I can do that, haven't checked the license yet :)) Let's
hack on that together!
No license problems there (GPL). I've only once sent a very small patch.
Never heard about it again... The idea of a reseller maintained
repository is worth thinking about. I do fear a bit that it could easily
just vanish from the resellers "collective awareness" or that the
maintainer loses interest/time in it etc. I'd prefer a repository and
bug tracker maintained by OpenSRS. The bug/issue tracker could also be
used for issues with the other interfaces and web-pages OpenSRS offers.
If we do a community based solution I think we should use one of the
sourceforge alternatives with repository, bug tracker, mailing list and
user roles administration included. I'd be willing to spend _some_ time
on it, but I simply don't have that much time (only for rants about
discontinued mailing lists).
Cheers

P.S: Aah, Magyarul, a language I fear I'll never find time to learn.
Even though it has a sensible mapping between written and spoken
language and the one and only correct date format... :)
