Don't know if https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/1325282 is relevant and any help. Google just shows me lots of people having trouble getting the microphone to work with Skype. Could you have done something in the past to get that going and it's crippled it for everything else?
