I think that's because feh uses Imlib2 to understand images so I looked
for the packages of other image viewers which also depend on Imlib2 and
found two:
sxiv - simple X image viewer

nsxiv - neo simple X image viewer
https://nsxiv.codeberg.page
Perhaps one of those is more mouse-based than feh, and will hopefully
also cope with the Apple images.
