I guess I was thinking of earlier versions of FreePPP which were just
like MacPPP, same ConfigPPP control panel, etc. For a GV Platinum you
won't even need an Init string... just type in the phone number and go.

Personally I really hate the modem scripts used by OT-PPP. I've finally
written one which works with my GV modems, but good old MacPPP or early
FreePPP are much faster at dialing and connecting.
