My advice is to look as hard as you can for any fax software you may have
ever installed that might be hogging your serial port and not letting go.
Try to find some utility software that forces an application to give up the
port. Had these problems w/ my 2300 a while back, so I can't give you
specifices, but I'm guessing that's it.
