Two apps I use that grab the port are OMS (for midi) and background printing
(HP and Epson) extensions. The port has always worked well with 8.1 and now
8.6 as long as everything is configured right.
G3 240/80/512 w/100MB virtual memory when not using music apps, no appletalk
or ethernet.
And ditto for the fax software
