Fair enough. But as you note, the OS doesn't handle a single serial
port well, and this leads a lot of people to trouble (especially
since it also doesn't handle things like internal modems well). This
is a general Mac OS issue. What's interesting here to me is whether
the 2400 (and possibly 2300) have any hardware problems with the
port. My own 2400, though certainly replete with hardware issues, has
never given me an ounce of trouble with the port, though I've used it
for printing to a Stylewriter, controlling a modem, acting as serial
console to a number of Unix machines and pieces of network hardware,
Localtalk, and MIDI. I also did all the same things with my old 2300
(and it's difficult to see why there'd be any similarities between
the 2300 & 2400 other than the fact that they've each a single port).

However, it now occurs to me that the 2400's serial port is on the
other side of the interconnect between the main logic board and the
I/O board. Since my own machine's hardware problems turned out to
stem from the MLB and CPU board interconnect, I wonder if the other
connector could have a problem with your 2400.

That's interesting, and it's not impossible that it could be a timing
issue in the driver. It's not exactly a topnotch card & driver to
begin with (I have one too), and it might misbehave on too fast a
CPU. Anyone else have the GV Platinum Pro or 56k combo card and a
2400/320? I know it does work with the Newer 240MHz card.
