There is a lot to like about the 2400. In my opinion the serial port
isn't one of them. I have found the 2400 serial port about as reliable
as the serial port on a 2300 when printing with an StyleWriter. I have
continually failed to get it to work consistently with an Epson Stylus
and for Hotsyncing with my Palm. I have had mixed results using
PowerPrint. I have had inconsistent failures using the serial port to
transfer pictures from my Kodak DC120.

I now use a USB PC Card to print flawlessly with my Epson Stylus and I
use IrDA to sync flawlessly with my Palm. I also use a compactflash
adapter to quickly and flawlessly transfer pictures through the PC Card
slot.

I once thought the serial port on the 2300 was touchy; in my opinion the
serial port on the 2400 more problematic. Except for when using
PowerPrint I avoid it entirely except when I use AppleTalk at my office.
I have not had problems running on the AppleTalk Network. I have,
however, had problems using Ethernet via the GV PC Modem/ethernet PC Card
since having the cardbus upgrade.

By the way I also have a G3/320 with 80MB of ram. I have partitioned my
hardrive to run both 8.6 and 9.4. I haven't tried the serial port with
9.4. Both systems run great and in my opinion and equally fast. I
installed 9.4 to use iTools and I am satisfied.

Wish I could suggest how to improve the serial port. My only suggestion
is use the other connection options available with the 2400.
