Well, I had a fine experience with DT&T, so maybe this is just a one-off 
SNAFU.  (Contradiction in terms?)

Anyway, MCE, as I understand, no longer performs repairs on 2400s. They 
will do upgrades, but if it is dead, they refer you to DT&T.

Just a heads up.
