I think those aren't lithium ion batteries, and if they aren't, you
would be ill advised to even try. It's potentially pretty dangerous.
(And even if the 2400's charging circuit can handle an older
technology like NiMH, the results would be pretty disappointing due
to reduced battery capacity.)

I believe there are companies out there which offer a service like
this: you send them just about any battery (not limited to notebook
batteries), they'll carefully cut it open, replace the cells with new
cells, close it up, and send it back. It's not as good as a new
battery because they do have to literally cut the thing apart (most
large rechargable batteries are encased in a 2-piece plastic housing
which has been ultrasonically welded together), but it is usually
cheaper than new.
