My son tells me that there is a real nice way of keeping your computer backed up. It is called RAID. He tells me that if you know how, you can set up a second drive and it will be a complete duplicate of your boot drive. If the C drive goes down, then the Raid drive takes over and boots up. This seems to me to be much better than a backup or mirror, because if you lose your drive you are still in business. I saw a WD 500 Gig drive for about $50...now I have got to get some smart guy to set up the RAID for me.
Yes I understand if you get a lightning strike you may lose both drives but there is always some risk in life isn't there. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Peter Dougherty Sent: Wednesday, December 30, 2009 6:56 PM To: 'Neal Campbell'; 'FireBrick' Cc: 'DXBase List' Subject: Re: [Dxbase] Backup backup backup Great minds, eh! The software sets up a folder on your hard drive and anything you put in it is file transferred to the Dropbox servers in the background. Any computer you install the program on (and it can handle Windows and Mac OS X systems) will get a copy of that folder. Its amazingly quick. I can drop a file (or update a file in the dropbox folder), walk downstairs and its already there on my computers downstairs. You get 2 GB of storage free (I believe) which is one humongous logfile! Give it a try, I use it to back up almost everything (including the source code for DXBase!)
