At times I have felt guilty for enjoying a commendation. After all, isn't that a form of pride? But I have concluded that it is not wrong to feel good when we receive a sincere compliment because of something we have done. By finding pleasure in being commended, we allow others to exercise their gift of encouragement. Their words can lift our spirits. We also show that pride hasn't gained the upper hand in our lives when we praise others. A proud person is so preoccupied with himself that he doesn't notice what others do and has no desire to compliment them. Paul freely commended his friends in Colosse because he knew it would encourage them. And we should do likewise. Give people a pat on the back when they deserve it. Compliment the child who does something well. Commend the single mother who regularly brings her children to church. Encourage the man who keeps helping others even though he receives little appreciation from them. Keep trying to please God and the people around you. Rabu, 2 Februari Pujian Saya Kami selalu mengucap syukur kepada Allah, Bapa Tuhan kita Yesus Kristus, ... karena kami telah mendengar tentang imanmu dalam Kristus Yesus dan tentang kasihmu terhadap semua orang kudus (Kolose 1:3,4) Bacaan: Kolose 1:3-8 Setahun: Keluaran 18-20 Ketika menerima suatu pujian, ada se-suatu yang memancar hangat dalam diri saya. Kadang kala saya merasa bersalah karena menikmati pujian itu. Lagi pula, bukankah hal itu merupakan suatu bentuk kesombongan? Namun, saya menyimpulkan bahwa menikmati pujian bukanlah hal yang keliru, apabila kita menerima pujian yang tulus atas apa yang telah kita kerjakan. Dengan merasakan kegembiraan karena dipuji, kita mengizinkan orang lain untuk melatih talenta mereka dalam memberi dorongan kepada sesama. Perkataan mereka dapat membangkitkan semangat kita. Apabila kita memuji orang lain, kita juga menunjukkan bahwa kesombongan tidak mendapat tempat dalam kehidupan kita. Orang yang sombong tenggelam dalam dirinya sendiri, sehingga ia tidak memerhatikan apa yang dilakukan sesamanya dan tidak memiliki hasrat untuk memuji mereka. Paulus secara terbuka memuji teman-temannya di Kolose karena ia tahu bahwa pujian itu akan memberikan semangat kepada mereka. Maka demikian pulalah kita seharusnya. Berikan tepukan di punggung sesama kita apabila mereka layak dipuji. Pujilah seorang anak yang melakukan sesuatu dengan baik. Pujilah ibu tunggal yang secara teratur mengajak anak-anaknya ke gereja. Berilah semangat kepada orang yang setia membantu orang lain, meski ia jarang menerima penghargaan dari mereka. Tetaplah berusaha menyenangkan Allah dan sesama di sekitar Anda.
