You are right on the mark Wayne. There is a lot of this type of eco-exploitation and myth going on in the Pacific NW and New England. It also extends into the halls of Academia, NGO's, etc. I have seen supposedly "interdisciplinary" research and "particiaptory" stakeholder engagement projects that are anything but...only the elite are invited to the table and they will not allow outside opinions. The money seems to be on the extremes and both sides consist of the elite who have no clue how most of us live and work...and a lot of us know more about the land than they ever will...too bad all that knowledge is lost. Too bad they don't know what true Democracy means. Let's hope it doesn't spread to the rest of this great country.
