We all had to start from somewhere, if you want to make your entry into EDI, I recommend you get an ENTRY LEVEL (means 0 or close to 0 experience) mapper job and from there build your way up. How did you do "a lot of maps" in Gentran if you do not know what X12 is? You would also know as you state "How a edi tool work" and you would know what a "trading partner" is and what an "envelope" then maybe you would do well in your interview. I feel bad for your potential employer if you BS your way through to get the job. EDI is NOT a like an easy programming language that you can pick simply pick up if you are a good developer, EDI is an industry, you have to appreciate the fact that it takes years to build good experience to make a career out of it.
