It's really too bad that today's not Friday so we could wail on you. Shame, shame for not only trolling your product/service but also biting the hand that feeds (also know as the goose that laid many a golden egg.)
If you'd asked us before you wrote your miserable piece, we would have suggested that you look at the EDI-L archives so see the prior discussions (averaging one a year) on this topic. I won't bore our usual suspects by re-iterating those discussions and will suggest you go do you own diligence. Your problem - which your service bureau can't solve - is a process issue and not an EDI issue. Unless you've got a magic hand to reach into the customer's shirt and make his hands move at the keyboard, you can't reliably use an 860 in EDI form to update anything. I'd guess that 50% of the time the order has shipped before the 860 even arrives. Quick - run after the truck to stop that order! And you ask "does anyone run EDI anymore?". What do you think?
