It's really too bad that today's not Friday so we could wail on you.  Shame,
shame for
not only trolling your product/service but also biting the hand that feeds
(also know
as the goose that laid many a golden egg.)

If you'd asked us before you wrote your miserable piece, we would have
suggested that
you look at the EDI-L archives so see the prior discussions (averaging one a
year) on this
topic.  I won't bore our usual suspects by re-iterating those discussions and
will suggest
you go do you own diligence.

Your problem - which your service bureau can't solve - is a process issue and
not an EDI issue.
Unless you've got a magic hand to reach into the customer's shirt and make his
hands move at
the keyboard, you can't  reliably use an 860 in EDI form to update anything.
I'd guess that 50% of the
time the order has shipped before the 860 even arrives.  Quick - run after the
truck to stop
that order!

And you ask "does anyone run EDI anymore?".  What do you think?

Come back Friday for an unrestricted whipping.

Subject: [EDI-L] EDI Software and handling the 860 (PO Change) business process

How does one who runs EDI software handle the different business process
challenges of the 860 from multiple customers?   How quickly does it turn
into paper? When major retailers change their orders about 20% of the time,
is a touch-less perfect order possible?  These questions and a brief example
are posted on Spend Matters -
http://www.spendmatters.com/index.cfm/2011/11/28/Is-There-Anyone-Still-Runni
ng-EDI-Software

David, Stephen, Michael, Todd, Rich, and the EDI-L gurus  - How does a small
company running EDI software and an antiquated ERP system handle the
multiple 860 business process challenges?  Is there a proper EDI way?

All the best,

Rob Guerriere
