My experience has been different. The other week I sent an email to support at Elecraft with one technical question and a parts question. In considerably less than an hour, I had a detailed (tutorial, even) reply to my technical question and a note that the parts question had been forwarded to the parts department. Minutes after this, I received an acknowledgement from the parts department, and the part in question went out in the next day's mail. All at no charge.
