Not to disagree with your logical order of repair utility use... I've always thought one was supposed to use Disk First Aid first, and since the version for 8.6 won't run when the computer is booted from OS 9 (Disk Warrior CD) I've always booted from Norton 4.0, run Disk First Aid (on repair), then Norton (while I'm in the neighborhood) then rebooted to the Disk Warrior CD and run that. I've never been in a position to have to reinitialize my hard drive. On this machine (6400/180, Sonnet G3/400, OS 8.6, 136 MB RAM, VM @ 137) that has worked well.
