It doesn't really matter in which order you install OS 9 and OS X
anymore. I'd install OS X, update to 10.2.6 with the *Combo* updater
(important, don't use the regular updaters as they are prone to cause
problems), then install Mac OS 9.1 and update to 9.2.2. There's no reason
to stay at 9.1 if you're going to use classic (in OS X) mostly. It's
better to upgrade. If you ever going to boot from OS 9 to use it for any
longer time also add Carbonlib 1.6 and Applescript 1.8.3 or later to OS 9.

If you have one of the old G3 boxes that demand that OS X be installed on
the first 8 GB, you might have to partition it to at least one 7.9 GB
partition if you have a bigger HD.

After all installations reboot from the OS X CD and choose Disk utility
and repair permissions.

Make sure you keep about 20% of your HD free for Virtual memory files and
other stuff. I hope you have 384 MB RAM or more? If not, get some more.
