I see.. the trouble switching from SF to linuxcnc.org should have been 
minimal.
Maybe the documentation is not clear enough. If that is so, we should 
improve it.

Sadly, I agree with you. But the wiki is a public undertaking (anyone can 
change and update it),
the documentation is not quite where it should be, but it's come a long way 
recently.
The website was mainly my own effort, so I am very open to any pointers or 
constructive criticism.

If you want to offer Linux/EMC2 as an alternative, than IMHO you don't need 
to keep track with CVS or development versions. You need to keep track of 
the _released_ and supported versions (where your users are sure to receive 
community support), and those have been announced (I did it personally) both 
on Sourceforge and on the website's front page.
You can also opt-in for receiving an email when there's a new release for 
emc2 (right now there are 4 users monitoring for such situations).
