The Pico Systems products all work off the parallel port, but use it is a communication channel. > I suppose that these cards by default don't do anything and you need > to load some kind of firmware onto them ? > True for some Mesa cards, but others (like Pico Systems) have fixed functions, like step/dir output, digital input and output, etc. You select the correct driver (included with the LinuxCNC distribution) and do minor configuring of the step resolution, desired speeds, etc. in the .ini file and it is ready to go.
