As I and Jon already mentioned, Pico's card already includes things
that You very lickely are going to need anyway - optoisolators on
limit switch inputs, some output drivers (like relays) etc, so one
single 7i43 card is not likely to handle everything and You will need
to add some other hardware as well (either in form of some daughter
cards or do some soldering on Your own).
I think that the answer of which one is better, as always, is not
straight-forward. How often/fast will You need to turn the laser on
and off? If You are going to do the laser engraving like rastering,
then I doubt that a relay is the right thing to have here, but You
should consult someone more knowledgable on this matter.
I personally chose Mesa, mainly because they have a dealer in EU,
which makes me the purchasing process a lot easier (no customs
procedures, taxation and other bureaucracy, which takes a lot of time).
