The "Enlightenment" menu is simply a menu file which includes kde, gnome,
etc. menu files (if they are present in your system). You should just use
whatever gives you a complete Applications menu on left-click at desktop.

Not sure what you mean here. I have kde system settings and it is one
monolithic configuration window.

Weird. Maybe you can check if you are using the composite module, and if so,
change the style of menus. Alternatively, you could try a different theme.

For me it is exactly the opposite. I like the way e17 treats submenus. So,
irrespective of *where* I open my submenu, I always need to move right to
the menu item I want. I don't need to think of where the submenu is going to
pop up next depending on whether I am on the right edge or left edge of the
desktop.
I find the rearrangement of submenus/menus feature in other desktops very
clumsy.
