Interesting. You're now up to 554 messages per second, still more
than 3 times slower than Eudora's 1679 messages per second. It would
be interesting to check how long this caching lasts. Does the speed
reduction remain after quitting & restarting Entourage? Restarting
the mac? Another couple of hours of using Entourage?

Must have an index on the from field. When is this generated? Is it
as messages arrive (in which case why isn't this index checked when
an advanced search is carried out?) or is it when the mail folder is
opened? In which case, is there a speed hit when opening large
mailboxes?

I found the searching within BBEdit very fast. Multi-file searching
carries some overheads in accessing the disk and opening & closing
files. It would be interesting to test this same file after opening
it in BBEdit.
