On second thought, I revise that: It's an action that takes the user by
surprise, and that endangers a message. Normally E'rage does not ask for
confirmation when simply moving a message to Deleted Items. That behavior
was undesirable when it existed (was it in early OE, or Emailer?), and I was
overjoyed when it was fixed. However, this is a unique case. When a user has
an incoming message open, selects text, and presses the Delete key, the odds
are he or she wants to delete the text, NOT the message.

I would suggest that one of two changes be made:

1. If a delete command is received with an open incoming message that is not
editable, ask for confirmation: "Do you really want to delete this message?"

OR, even better:

2. If a delete command is received with an open incoming message that is not
editable, AND some text in the message is selected, ask: "Do you wish delete
the entire message or just edit the text?" If the user responds by clicking
the Edit button, enable editing and delete the text; otherwise proceed with
deleting the message.
