As a counter-balance: While I find it a bit annoying that I can't send mail
via smtp.mac.com, Earthlink access is virtually everywhere. Therefore, the
convenience of being able to dial in to Earthlink from whatever city I am in
makes it worthwhile to stay with them. And, if I have access from some other
server (as I did at the Seattle VP Summit), I then found I could send mail
via mac.com but NOT from Earthlink. It was a matter of a minute or two to
set up an alternate account in Entourage, and that was it. I could still
read all my mail accounts; only the sending needed to be switched. Less
trouble, certainly, than changing the telephone number for dialing up. And
so far, after 3 years with Earthlink, no billing errors.
