Those settings (Robyn's settings) work for me too (using smtp.mac.com to
send mail while connected to my earthlink account). The fact that you have
to authenticate the smtp server using your itools username/password maybe
why it works for those that have been successful.

EarthLink's port 25 blocking policy better not apply to mac.com because new
machines that get configured to use EarthLink also are using the mac.com
server to send email. EarthLink better allow that or it breaks a lot of new
EarthLink users.

I've tested this and so I'll say this again: "EarthLink is in no way
blocking mac.com email".
