I think Entourage/Mac OE/Emailer was first with:

* colored quoting
* multiple email accounts in one inbox
* user re-wraping of text
* flaging that connects any document with the task list and calendar
* categories that work like they should
* custom views that work
* linking contacts to email to events to tasks
* mailing list manager
* insert hyperlink from IE
* applescripting

Based on this track record, I'll be sticking with Jud & co. for awhile.

(And, to echo others, I'd like to add connect with OS X database and
transparent Exchange support to the list above.)
