A few days ago I posted a query to this list, asking if anyone else had seen corrupted "Create Contact" windows in Entourage X and "Add Contact" windows in Word X, running in Jaguar. Nobody responded. I have also been seeing a lot of unexpected quits in Word.
I tried various suggestions posted by MVPs and others: replacing prefs files, font caches, etc. Finally I decided to remove and reinstall Office X. I did that, and reran the SR 1 update. It did not help. I still see incorrectly drawn windows in Word and Entourage. I still get unexpected quits. And I'm actually worse off than I was before I did the reinstall, since my task data in Entourage are now hosed. I only use the main view in the Tasks window, selecting "Tasks" in the Views list (the top item, with the checkbox mini-icon). "All Tasks" is selected in the View menu. Before my reinstall, this view showed all of my tasks. But after the reinstall, it only shows a few of my tasks. If I select the "High Priority", "Incomplete", or "Overdue" views, I see other sets of tasks. But these groupings have no relation to any data that I entered. If I look in the data fields for the individual tasks, most of them now have garbage or incomplete information in the date and time fields. Something got corrupted in the reinstall. My database is not very big, only 18 MB. I tried a Typical rebuild. No difference. I hesitate to do an Advanced rebuild, since I recall reading that this loses information from the DB. I only have a few dozen active tasks in the DB, so I could just delete and reenter them. Any suggestions? But right now, I am concerned about the bigger picture. I am reading lots of reports from people who are seeing Word crashes under Jaguar. I don't use Word very much, but I do depend on Entourage for my email and task organizing. Is my DB problem another indication that Office X might not be compatible with Jaguar? Or are there tricks to doing a remove/reinstall that I do not know?
