To rebuild you database start Entourage holding down the Option key. When the Rebuild dialog box comes up, choose to do a “Typical Rebuild”.
It will give you a message at the end, it only takes 10-30 seconds to to rebuild,
that it has backed up the old database and the old ? (sorry cant remember!) these (two files) can be deleted once you have started and are happy with your rebuilt Entourage

I turned off “preview pane,’ and yes, the invisible messages can be pinpointed by a large blank space between messages, but just placing the cursor anywhere near the blank (on both the in box blanks and the delete message blanks) causes a crash!
