I set up my father-in-law with Office 2004 this morning, converting his
Entourage X installation to Entourage 2004. When he tries to send mail, or
receive mail, he gets an error message. I don't have the specific wording,
but it's something like:
"Entourage doesn't support the requested authentication method"
It includes an error code of "-17897".
His ISP is Qwest, but they use msn.com as their email server.
Here are the attempted resolutions:
1. We've tried launching Entourage X to send and receive messages, just to
be sure that the mail server isn't down. Indeed, Entourage X sends and
receives as it always did.
2. I've searched the Entourage MVPS Error Page
<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/error/page.html> for the error code, and
it's not listed there.
3. We've verified that the account settings are the same between Entourage
X and Entourage 2004.
Does anyone know what the -17897 error message means? Or even better, does
anyone know what the resolution to this may be?
